worried

Q: Bleeding from incision in breast fold one week 2 days post op. How worried should I be?

Submitted by Q-A from clee on Mon, 09/05/2016 - 20:09

I've been bleeding small amounts for days from my incision. I can see a small yellow spot could that be the stitches showing through or more likely to be infection? I sent a photo to my PS but they have yet to get back to me. How worried should I be?

A: Spotting and discoloration of steri-strips is common

Light spotting with either red or clear yellow fluid under the steri-strips is common early after surgery. You should be fine waiting on your surgeon to reply if dressings are not saturated and there are no other unusual findings.

Q: I want to know if it's normal to feel extreme soreness 3 weeks post op and when I should expect it to go away?

It's been three weeks since my breast augmentation procedure. I am worried that there is something wrong with my right implant because the inner part of my right breast feels very sore when I massage it and when I take deep breaths my right boob hurts. Also, right breast is very painful when I squeeze them together. My doctor 2 weeks post op said the right breast hurt more because I use my right hand more often then my left. My left breast doesn't hurt at all.

A: Submuscular breast augmentation can have extended periods of soreness

Submuscular breast augmentation necessitates division of the pectoral muscle along the inner lower portion of the each breast. This is often associated with post operative pain that varies in each patient and often differs even with right versus left breast. Most plastic surgeons manage symptomatic patients with regular examinations. In the absence of other findings symptoms usually subside spontaneously 3-6 weeks after surgery.

Q: Muscle Detached from Sternum From Breast Augmentation - Will It Get Worse over Time?

Submitted by Q-A from clee on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 12:26

Muscle detached from sternum (right side) from ba -Implant slightly bottomed out medially & inferiorly -I have saline (325 filled to 390) - Starting to notice rippling in my right cleavage where my muscle got separated.

I'm thin and worried that the 'exposed' implant in my right cleavage is going to show more rippling with time. Should I wait & see how bad it gets or should I get a revision now? Is it harder to fix if it gets worse? Results are fantastic but worried.

A: Enjoy your results

Your results are good. At present, it is not really a good idea to address relatively minor concerns.

Q: Bad Results After Several Breast Augmentations and Two Lifts: What Can I Do?

Submitted by Q-A from clee on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 11:13

I have had several breast surgeries. Some good some bad. With childbirth in between, came the necessity to re-do the original breast aug with a lift. I met with a wonderful doctor. It was recommended to me this time, to get gummy bear implants...Right now, I have implants placed above the muscle, and they are silicone gel..the problem is I am afraid to have more necrosis or an even worse result.

I had some slight nipple necrosis from the first surgery. Should I do this over less than 1 yr later?

A: Detailed history and exam are necessary

Good preparation and precise execution of a plan is a formula that reliably leads to success outcomes. This starts with a detailed history and examination. While online posting of more details and photos may assist a plastic surgeon, it is better to rely on the following: 1) the logic of the treatment plan 2) reputation of the surgeon  3) your personal experience during the consultation as to how your list of priorities and questions were addressed by the plastic surgeon. If in doubt obtain another opinion. Only with a physical meeting can a surgeon express confidence in his/her  plan to resolving your concerns.

Q: Reason for Pain and Constant Discomfort in Breast?

Submitted by Q-A from clee on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 10:42

August will be 2 years since I have had my breast augmentation. I chose silicone implants. Since then, my left breast has had painful sensations along with tingling, burning, itching, sharp pain in my nipple, and basically nonstop discomfort.

I have check with both my surgeon and general dr about this but neither seem to think it's a problem. I have had a mammogram/ultrasound done and both came back normal. I can't continue to live with this pain and constant worry about what could be wrong.

A: It is always a challenge treating pain

2 years of pain is not normal. A reevaluation to identify the root cause would help. If all else is normal, it is probable that your persisting symptom is from nerve injury. Implant removal does not reliably decrease pain. While you may consider the option of implant removal, there is no certainty in its effectiveness in managing intractable breast pain.

Q: Are Gurgling and Swishing Common in Silicone Implants at High Altitudes?

Submitted by Q-A from clee on Fri, 05/13/2011 - 08:50

10 months ago, I had breast augmentation (silicone). Now, each time I travel to Lake Tahoe, the high altitude seems to have an effect on them. I hear a gurgle and swishing sound. I have found that if I massage them, this usually goes away.

Nevertheless, I am concerned. Doing a google search, I came across a woman on this site with a similar experience, but the doctors seemed to be unaware of these effects. Are there any doctors who have heard of this and should I see my doctor about it?

A: Not common to have this with silicone

Regardless of altitude it is not common to find gurgling and swishing feeling with silicone implants as the viscosity of these are similar to tissue.  Perhaps you should see your surgeon for reassurance.

A: Stay away from none surgeries such as injections

Avoid undergoing non-surgical breast augmentation procedures such as injections with foreign materials. They have proven to be problematic. Contact your national society of Plastic Surgeons and ask for a list of regional reputable plastic surgeons so that you can start your research for your best doctor.
